Multi-millionaire Elton John pips Simon Cowell to highest British ranking in list of top paid male global stars - by a measly £6m


Elton John has been named as one of the highest paid male entertainers in the world earning £63m in the last year.
The singer eclipsed Simon Cowell by £6m to be ranked fourth on the Forbes annual list of top paid male stars.
John, 64, raked in the huge figures thanks to his world tour which took over £130million in box office receipts.

His extensive back catalogue of hits, such as Your Song and Crocodile Rock, also boosted his earnings, according to research by Forbes.

Cowell, 51, was rated fifth on the list with £57million, with his earnings coming from his work on American Idol and the upcoming launch of X Factor USA stating on September 21.


 
American director Tyler Perry topped the list with earnings of £82million between May 2010 and May 2011.

His films have taken more than £300million worldwide and he has released five over the past two years acting as writer, director and producer.
Hollywood producer Jerry Bruckheimer was rated second on the Forbes list with £71million, thanks in part to the success of the fourth Pirates Of The Caribbean film and the CSI television series.

Steven Spielberg was third with £67.7million, while  Leonardo Dicaprio was the only actor in the top ten.

The success of films such as Inception meant he took home £48.7million up to May 2011. He is due to star as FBI chief Edgar J Hoover in Clint Eastwood’s latest film.

Despite failing to capture his best form since his sex scandal, Tiger Woods remains the highest paid sportsman in the world.

He earned £47.5million to rank tenth, with major sponsors such as Nike staying loyal to the 34-year-old golfer as his private life fell apart after 14 women came forward to claim they had been his mistress.
