Baz Luhrmann 's adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald's jazz age classic The Great Gatsby is set to arrive on our screens on Christmas day, 2012 Up against Tarantino’s Django Unchained and the first of The Hobbit movies in December 2012, Baz Luhrmann’s The Great Gatsby has been pegged for a December 25 th release date (though whether that’s here in the UK as well as in the US is yet to be confirmed). Who goes to the cinema on Christmas day? Non-Christmas-celebrating folk might well, but even then the buses will be a nightmare and you won’t be able to pop into Tescos and get a grab-bag of Revels before the film. We certainly won’t be there. Instead, we’ll be enjoying the traditional Christmas celebrations of stuffing ourselves with selection boxes, singing along to Wham, and getting into fist fights over the wording of Trivial Pursuit questions. Baz Lurhmann’s The Great Gatsby is currently filming in Sydney, starring Leonardo Dicaprio , Carey Mulligan and Tobey Maguire While we remain more or less in the dark as to why Baz Luhrmann is shooting his The Great Gatsby adaptation in 3D (perhaps he wanted all those gin cocktails and metaphors about the American Dream to really “pop”?), we’re still looking forward to seeing the end product. These stylish new pictures on-set don’t convince us otherwise, either. Carey Mulligan looks to be a good fit for Gatsby’s beautiful lost love Daisy, while Leo and Tobey Maguire wear their respective flamboyant suit and sensible cardigan well. Adapted from F.Scott Fitzgerald’s 1925 novel about an enigmatic figure at the centre of the Long Island jazz age social scene, The Great Gatsby is due on UK screens late next year.
