Leonardo DiCaprio

(born November 11th, 1974) is an actor who stared in one of the highest grossing films of all time, Titanic.

was born in Hollywood, California, to his German mother, Irmalin, and his Italian father, George, who were divorced the year following his birth. Leonardo’s name derives from his mother having experienced a sudden kick from unborn Leo while admiring a painting by the great Leonardo DiVinci.

Leo began acting at the young age of 5 when he
appeared on one of his favorite shows, “Romper Room” (1953). He was nearly thrown off the set for misbehaving. After doing several commercials, educational films, a small role as Josh in “Critter’s 3”, and playing Luke in the popular TV show “Growing Pains”, DiCaprio landed his first major role as Tony in “This Boy’s Life” co-starring with Robert De Niro and Ellen Barkin.
Leo recieved his first Academy Award and Golden Globe nominations from his difficult role as Arnie in “What’s Eating Glibert Grape” in which he co-starred with Johnny Depp. From there Leo did many other films including “The Basketball Diaries”, “Total Eclipse”, “Marvin’s Room”, and ”Romeo + Juliet”.


In 1997, Leo landed the role that skyrocketed him to stardom. Leo was cast to play Jack Dawson in the much anticipated “Titanic” directed by James Cameron. In the film Leo stared with then upcoming actress, Kate Winslet, who played Rose. “Titanic” is the highest grossing film of all time and it tied with “Ben Hur” for the most Academy Awards (11).
After “Titanic” Leo stared in a few films that didn’t make too much money and later made his comeback by landing the role as Frank Abaganale in “Catch Me If You Can” where he stared opposite Tom Hanks.

Aside from the above stated films, Leo has also had success in the films “The Aviator”, “The Departed”, “Blood Diamond”, “Body of Lies”, and “Revolutionary Road”. Leo’s most recent film “Shutter Island” is set to come out
