Benicio Del Toro turns down Star Trek sequel

Benicio Del Toro
Benicio Del Toro may no longer be involved, but rumours that Khan is JJ Abrams' villain persist
Hollywood’s a cruel mistress. No sooner does a studio optimistically leak casting news but it’s snatched away from us. Now it seems that Benicio Del Toro won’t be part of JJ Abrams’ Star Trek sequel after all, as the actor failed to reach a deal with the film. That leaves a villain-shaped
hole in Abrams’ follow-up to the 2009 surprise hit.
As yet, no names have come out as being floated to replace Del Toro, but with production just a month away, we can expect to hear something more concrete in the near future.
Rumours still persist that the sequel’s villain will be established Trek character Khan, (he with the wrath), despite Abrams himself denying it. The main cast Abrams assembled for the first reboot are set to return (Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Caldana, Simon Pegg and Anton Yelchin) to face whichever baddie the director and writing team is keeping up its collective sleeve.
