What real benefits can I get by studying in China?

Hello!

I am Clara, originally from Spain, but spent a semester abroad in China on University of Nottingham Ningbo. As a student there I benefited from many things that I couldn’t have possibily learned in my home university.

Studying abroad is a decision that requires courage. Even more, if it’s in a foreign country with a very different culture than yours. I think there are many things to take away from China. From culture, to future job perspectives and of course achiving a higher level of mandarin

I guess that most people try to work or study in China due to job opportunities. In this sense, it is indeed a country where engineer students will get the best formation possible, along with some experience, as in many universities there are interships programs. For example, University of Nottingham has links with many important companies like Huaweii or Microsoft. Also, it has many power in business as many important companies are moving their operations center to China

But apart from work opportunities, China is a great country to get some personal growth. As a foregneir, living in China will most likely open ypur mind and tolerance towards new enviorments. As most psychologist say, the pinacle of human intelligence is adaptation. Gertting out of your comfort zone will provide another outlook on customs, relationships and the way you interact with your surroundings, as you will have to develop new skills. Language barrier can be tricky and you might struggle but in the end this will open the door to learn a great language, mandarin. If you are looking forward to learning mandarin, this is the best place. Chinese people don’t really speak English and your only way of communicating will be through translators or mandarin. They will also not hesitate in correcting your word choice or pronunciation as chinese locals tend to be very sincere with others.
